A stormy day at Canyonlands spent chasing down some short hikes in the gaps between the lightning storms.  This was a theme for a lot of my travels this spring.  

I've decided to go ahead and dive into my favorite photos from the spring trip.  My time may become very limited for awhile, so rather than let them sit on my hard drive for who knows how long, it's time to get some of them out into the world.  I can worry about the writing and the storytelling later, though I will get to that too, eventually...

One Day On Earth: 12.12.12 - Filming the Burning Skies

Trying to get through all of the One Day stills and even get a small video up today.  Life is crazy, and this project got huge on me, but I’m doing my best to keep up with everything!

One thing that is really helping is being able to use my mom’s new laptop.  I didn’t realize just how unacceptably bad mine was until making this post on it after using hers for the last 24 hours.  Wow.

It really does make every little project take two to three times longer than it should.  It is sad, but I just realized that it was not the process of my photo of the day that took so long that I had to give it up, it was the computer I am working with. 

I am very grateful that I can use for most of the heavy photography and video projects I have coming up in the near future.  It is the only way I will be able to get any of that done. 

My laptop?  I think it is going to be retired and only used for writing and to play music while I use other computers from now on.  It does have much better speakers than the one I am using for photography and video work right now.

Mt. Tabor. Portland, Oregon. December 2011…

Unfortunately, I lost most of the photos from this day, all of the originals.

In December, I was bouncing back and forth between too many cameras, too many computers, and dealing with full hard drives on my computers, so I was spending a lot of time switching files back and forth between drives there. Somewhere in the shuffle, the original photos from this outing got lost. I have a handful that I edited back then. The rest are gone.

I was afraid of this happening in December, and I was trying to be very careful that this did not happen. Unfortunately, it appears that I was not careful enough.

Since then I have worked out a system to prevent this from happening. Also, I will be buying a new hard drive next week to help resolve the main issue that I've been having leading to so much data loss... Full hard drives on my primary computer and having no drive available to back up any of my disks.

So. I am sad.

But it just gives me an excuse to go back to that park in the near future, so that is good. This was my first outing with the new camera and I was still getting used to it, so maybe it is all for the best anyway...

One Day On Earth: 11-11-11 - My Video

A collection of stills and videos shot while wandering from Gresham through to downtown Portland, Oregon. Themes I was focusing on include public transportation, the fall colors, Veterans' Day, the setting up of Christmas displays in the local malls, and general street scenes from both Gresham and Portland, transitioning from a suburban environment to an urban one.

An insane amount of work went into this for what is essentially a glorified slideshow, but with the technical issues I was having, a glorified slide show is all that my computer could handle... And barely even that.

A little clunky in places. Reminder on the video portions... This is the project that made me realize I needed to upgrade my camera.
