So, the book we were slaving away on is out! I am very excited about this! I hope folks enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed helping Jason out with it.

Almost Done!

I've been pretty quiet here, especially when it comes to creative content, because I've been busy working hard all year editing a novel for a client.

The good news is that we are almost done, in the final stages of editing, and should be hatching that bad boy out into the world pretty soon!

It's been a lot of hard work, but I am so excited to share my client's writing with everyone in the coming weeks. It's a hell of a story he's told, and I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I have!

Considering that I shot and titled this photo a year and a half ago, and that the title feels as relevant today as it did then, it would be easy for me to feel like not much has happened over the past year, but it has.  Life has been busy and crazy and full of peaks and valleys (unfortunately, not enough literal peaks and valleys, but so it goes)...

Creatively, things have been in a bit of a lull, however, which is one of the reasons why I haven't been posting here.  There just hasn't been much to share and there has been nothing to support.  I will not be asking for Patreons while I am producing little new content.

And it might be a few more months before my next projects start taking shape...

This is not to say that I've been completely idle.  For the last few months, I've been working on editing a long and complex novel for a client.  In fact, the plan for 2019 is to focus more on literary projects than photography and video work.

Once I am done with this editing gig, the plan is to return to work on finishing the novel I started back in 2011 while doing some prep work on a second novel that has been germinating for about a year now...

Also, I will be taking another look at the movie on the Historic Columbia River Highway and evaluating the next steps for the public lands project, making a decision on which to tackle first.  As for the former, I do hope to rebuild the crashed out website by the end of the summer, at the very least.

So, there are a lot of "if this, then thats" in my world right now, plus the day job keeping my creative efforts in a very part time mode right now, but I am looking forward to a lot of great, new work lying ahead, just over the horizon!

Vimeo & "When the Devil Knows Your Name" by Black Powder County

I've been neglecting this blog!  Buried in video work on live concerts, I've abandoned the Photo of the Day project (for now, it will return!), and between the concerts and the work on Recreating the Historic Columbia River Highway, I just haven't produced much content for the blog recently!

However, I have also been neglecting my Vimeo account.  So, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and start a new series of posts featuring some of my recent video work as I post the clips to Vimeo.

These will mostly be concert videos with a couple of other things, mostly HCRH related, thrown in here and there.  One of the reasons that I haven't posted these videos and films here before is that they are a little off the subject matter this blog has settled into over the last few years, but it is a major direction that my work is going in now, so I feel that it is time to post them to my primary blog, regardless of the content that I've posted in the past.

Don't worry, this isn't going to fully turn into a music blog.  I still hope to post the sorts of posts that I've concentrated on in the past, the little adventure articles and what not, the landscape photos and travel logs and what not.

But I do want this blog to reflect my full body of work, too.

As for Vimeo...  One of the reasons why I don't post very often there is that I really do have mixed feelings about the platform.  While serious filmmakers prefer it to YouTube, it can feel a little pretentious from time to time.  Yes, everything looks great on it!  It handles video much better than YouTube, but this comes with some additional issues, too.  With clunkier computers or slower internet connections, it can be darned difficult to watch videos on it.  It stalls a lot, at least it used to. 

Over the years, there's been a number of periods when I've been stuck with both clunky, older computers and horrible internet speeds.  During those periods, it was almost impossible to watch any videos hosted on Vimeo.  It was very frustrating.

Perhaps this is why I feel it can be a bit pretentious.  "Oh, your gear isn't good enough to watch my beautiful video?  Rather than letting you watch at a resolution that will work for you, just come back later when you've upgraded on your end." 

Anyway, enough babble.

This is an "older" video  (only a few months, but it feels like years!) from the first concert film I directed and edited for Black Powder County.  They are great guys who make great music and put on an awesome show.
