December is a cruel month

Two images tell most of the story…

Against the Dying Word Counts.xlsx 12172012 111710 AM.bmp

The first is a countdown on the One Day site for the deadline for us submitting our films.  The second is progress on my novel.  See a connection?

On top of this, I am not on some sort of artist’s retreat down here is Sacramento, I have a lot of hard work to do to get my mother and I out of here by the time my kids’ winter break is done.

Finally, I have a couple of days’ worth of prep work on some photography contests with an end of the year deadline.  I will probably be using pictures from the big August camping trip, most of which I have not looked at since, well, August.

So, a while back I set a sort of deadline for myself…  I would like to have the first draft of the novel done by February 1.  This is still achievable, even if little work is done until the last two weeks of January.

We have 21 days or so to get the move done.  And I have 26 days to get my video done, which should go a lot better than last year’s since I have a better computer to work with and “better” clips shot with a better camera.

It is a much more complicated video, I suspect, than last year’s, and I am breaking it down into segments, the first of which I’ve already completed (long weekend).  The only thing really intimidating me about the video right now is how many clips I have to run through and organize, and some untested, by myself, editing techniques that I hope to use with some of them.

And the arts work will be morning and evening work with the days spent working with mom on the move and assorted other issues.

I can do it, but I need to stay focused and I need to remember…  The next couple of months will be full of hard work, but the rewards will be tremendous when it is all complete.

Here is the first completed segment for the video, though it may be the last piece to appear in it.  I’ll also post it as it’s own post later for my own indexing purposes…

Here is the first month, vaguely... 3870 total views, ever.

Here is a rough cut of the second month... 10,331 total views, ever.

Most popular photos by category...
To me it is somewhat surprising which ones are the most popular.  Maybe I cannot curate myself as well as I thought I could. However, it is an interesting way to select a mess of pictures to post before I take a short break from my Photo of the Day.

Sure, I'll give Google Earth a free plug

Because I am plugging myself, to some degree. In the last couple months I've jammed, as of this morning, 322 photos into Google Earth, which have been viewed 4642 times in the last 30 days.

What does this mean for me? Little, but it is fun knowing that people are, hopefully, enjoying my pictures.

In fact, today, burned out from yesterday's birthday proceedings and a long couple of weeks, I plan on doing little while the boys are at school outside of listening to some music and uploading even more photos to Panoramio.com, which is the portal for Google Earth.

Google Earth Has Been Downloaded 1 Billion Times: "As much as one-seventh of humanity has downloaded Google Earth, a technology that is only six years old.

The free software has been downloaded 1 billion times, Google announced Wednesday. If you’re among the 6 billion or so people who haven’t downloaded it, the app offers navigable, photographic images of the Earth, taken by satellites."

Statistics: First Month on Panoramio

In a few days I will be posting up the 200th Photo Of The Day and I plan on doing a fairly thorough review of my page view statistics around the web, but a few days ago I passed the benchmark of being on Panoramio for one month.  To me, it was a pretty impressive month.  Sure, I was uploading quite a bit of content up into the new account which does help drive the views, but I am still pretty impressed with the results.

These stats might not be impressive to a lot of people, but they are to me since I just dork around with these pictures for the fun of it.

Anyway, in the first month, give or take a day or two:

Last 30 Days:                               3855 total views
All time:                                         3870 total views
Viewed in Google Earth:               3581 views
Viewed in Google Maps:              168 views

Today, I am up to 4328 total views.

Here is the same chart from a few days after I started with Panoramio.

My pictures on Panoramio

Because, what I really need, is another photography site to keep up with.  But I like this one because it posts my pictures on Google Earth, and some even make it up on Google Maps.  It is fun, but not something to be especially proud of, I suppose, since everyone who posts to Panoramio, essentially gets put on Google Earth if their photos meet the criteria.  Still, it is fun.

Also, it has got a lot of eyes on my pictures.

I'll take 1726 views in under 30 days anytime.

Anyway, my photos on Panoramio can be found here:  http://www.panoramio.com/user/6176499

I've also added the link to the sidebar on the right.

The only thing I like about Photobucket...

...is my stats.  10,909 file views since March is nothing to sneeze at.  For me, at least.

Especially considering the fact that I do nothing there but upload my photos of the day once or twice a month and enter the occasional contest.  Easiest 10,000 page hits I've ever had.

Photobucket conundrum...

I thought about deleting my Photobucket account. More and more, I just don't like that site very much and it just feels like clutter to me.  However, while pondering this step this morning, clicking around in there a bit, I noticed some stats...   Apparently, I've had nearly 9,000 file views over the last month, definitely making this, by far, my most "successful" photography site presence.

So now instead of deleting that account, I am actually thinking of increasing my presence there and using it for more.  Who am I to argue with success?

Something to think about this week as I continue to work on my portfolio material.
