We are down to the final days of the comment period!  Please, take the time today to comment on the fate of this national monument, any of the other 27 monuments on the Interior Department's list, or on the fate of all of them.

Nothing much to add right now, especially after all the babbling over the last few posts.  I think I am tired, it's been a marathon getting through everything today!

But nothing like the work Brent Rose put in on his travels!  I am still envious that he had the opportunity to do this, even with the heat down there.

Another monument to save.  Let's learn about it, comment on it, and visit it (when temperatures cool down a bit)!

In my earlier post on this monument, I mentioned that it seems like there is little reason to eliminate this one for any reason.  So, we'll see how far the cuts go over the coming weeks.

Running through these last few posts from Brent Rose, I am catching a few errors on the website and earlier posts...  Some I was aware of, I was just moving ahead instead of getting stuck in endless formatting battles (it might be time for a template upgrade on Blogger), and some others were surprises...

One that was a bit disheartening was to find that a lot of the links to my website on broke when I made a small tweak to the site.  This is severe enough that I will be going back and fixing links very soon.  Anyone who's followed my Historic Columbia River Highway project knows that this is a bane of mine!

But I am proud of the little website for this project, so I will do that in the next day or two.  Until then, I want to keep pushing out new content...

Oh, and let Secretary Zinke and President Trump know, hands off this monument!

With my last post on Ironwood Forest National Monument, I succeeded in the goal of getting at least one post up for each of the 22 "land" monuments before tomorrow's deadline, but it feels bittersweet.
The content was not always as deep as I would have liked, there are many photos that I'd like to share (especially from Grand Staircase-Escalante) that I will not get to, and let's not even talk about the typos and formatting errors (I promise to clean up the worst of the posts up as I find them)!  Cranking out the content was the goal, editing sometimes suffered...  

I will write a bit more about my feelings about this project and the plans for the future in a later post.

It was a marathon, and I don't think I would have made it without the videos from Brent Rose's 27 Monuments project.  He's still cranking through his last edits, too, it looks like, and I'll be sharing them as he gets them done...

Carrizo Plain National Monument is best known for it's "Super Blooms" and wildflowers, but aside from that, it is an incredibly important monument protecting some of the last natural landscapes in this part of California.

It is worthy of saving.

Unfortunately, life doesn't always make time for passion project, and as the deadline for comments on the 27 National Monuments in Danger creeps to within hours, I am still scrambling to finish my first posts on the monuments.

This is the second to the last of the 22 "land" monuments for me to do a first post on, and I've written the text of a long post on Ironwood Forest National Monument, so I will at least get those done in time!

I probably was in this monument once in my life, long before it was a monument, while visiting Sequoia National Park as a kid, but that was a very long time ago.  I remember the trees in the park, and this monument was created to protect vital groves that were left beyond the boundaries of the park, but are still worthy of protection.

In this day and age, there really is no reason to cut down a tree that is thousands of years old.  I am not sure that anyone is really interested in harvesting these trees at this point, anyway, but that doesn't mean that they should be left unprotected, and these forests need to be managed properly for them to survive.

As the San Francisco Chronicle reports, "Supporters of the monument say the designation has been critical for conservation of the giant sequoias, a species limited to a narrow 250-mile belt on the western flanks of the Sierra Nevada."
