Bryce Canyon was the first high elevation stop on the trip. This overlook is at 8627 feet. After being stuck near sea level for most of the past year and a half, I was missing oxygen pretty badly up there! After a few more days, up and down from these sorts of elevations, I did a bit better. Unfortunately the trip schedule didn't allow for much hiking, or it might have been a bad time for me until I got acclimated to the elevation.
Of course, a week later we were in Death Valley, below sea level... The southwest is a region of contrasts and extremes.
