UARS reminds me of Mir... (Updated!)

Updated below with an re-entry update from Bad Astronomy and a funny bit from Colbert last night.  (2011-09-23; 10:45 AM)

When Mir was de-orbited on March 23, 2001, Taco Bell ran this promotion. Free tacos for everyone in the U.S. if it hit the target.

This whole deal with the re-entering satellite reminds me of that time, or the Wim Wenders movie Until the End of the World, though with less risk of the world ending.

UARS update 2: new predicted re-entry at 00:58 UTC | Bad Astronomy | Discover Magazine: "The Center for Orbital and Reentry Debris Studies has updated their predicted re-entry time for NASA’s UARS satellite. It is now three hours later than before: 9/24 at 00:58 UTC, which puts it in the middle of the south Pacific:"
