National Monuments in Danger

We are down to the final days of the comment period!  Please, take the time today to comment on the fate of this national monument, any of the other 27 monuments on the Interior Department's list, or on the fate of all of them.

To comment on the monument review process (due July 10, 2017):

Considering the rapidly approaching deadline, I hope to post on as many monuments as possible today, hopefully getting at least one post up for all that I have yet to specifically post on...  That means the next few posts won't be as deep as I'd like to go with these monuments, but I do plan on going back and covering a lot of these with additional posts, not just over the next week, but until their fates are decided, too.

Today, I'll start with Brent Rose's virtual visit to Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and a couple additional videos...

From National Geographic:

President George W. Bush created the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in 2006, protecting the uninhabited northwestern islands of Hawaii and the sea around them. Last fall President Barack Obama quadrupled the monument’s size, pushing its boundary out to the 200-mile limit of U.S. waters. A few days later, off Midway Islands, he went snorkeling there...  Many fishermen have opposed the use of the Antiquities Act to designate marine monuments, but conservationists and marine scientists see it as an important means of conserving the last great places in America’s seas.
